Hanwha Ocean announced the sail-away of a fixed platform ordered in 2021 by Qatar's North Oil Company, following three years of construction. The facility consists of a topside with crude oil production equipment, a jacket substructure to secure it to the seabed, and an interconnection bridge, with a total weight of 34,800 tons. With the NOC project, it is 31st fixed platform of Hanwha Ocean and they have once again demonstrated its expertise in constructing large fixed platforms.

The NOC project faced challenges due to global inflation and the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused delays in the arrival of key materials from overseas. However, the company's workforce gathered to ensure the fixed platform sailed on schedule while achieving an impressive 9 million man-hours with zero accidents. These efforts reaffirmed Hanwha Ocean's reputation as a specialist in offshore plant construction, highlighting both safety and punctuality.

Notably, Qatar Energy, a major player in the energy industry, has highly praised Hanwha Ocean's efforts, which is expected to positively affect future sales of LNG carriers and oil field development-related facilities. Additionally, this project involved the highest number of overseas partners in any of Hanwha Ocean’s offshore projects. As the offshore plant market trends towards local sourcing and production, this collaboration is expected to help Hanwha Ocean secure future orders.

In April, Hanwha Ocean appointed Philippe Levy, the former President of SBM Offshore Americas, as the President of its Offshore Business division. Levy’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the company as it transitions from a traditional shipbuilder to an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Operation (EPCI(O)) solution provider, offering products such as FPSOs, FLNGs, offshore renewables, and other floating production units.

Furthermore, the recent acquisition of a stake in Dyna-Mac, a Singaporean offshore plant topside production company, will enable Hanwha Ocean to meet the growing global demand for floating offshore plants.

“I would like to thank all of our colleagues for their dedication and hard work, and our clients for their unwavering collaboration and support,” said Philippe Levy. “Together, we continue to set new standards in the industry and drive forward innovation and excellence.”

The platform is expected to arrive at the Al Shaheen Oil Field, one of the largest offshore oil fields in the world, within 25 days of departing from the Geoje Okpo yard. The target for the first oil is set for the end of December 2024, following the completion of the offshore basic scope of work and commissioning. Once fully installed, the platform is expected to produce approximately 50,000 barrels of crude oil daily.
